Lucille Long of Kansas Christian Home went to be with her Lord and Redeemer Tuesday (Feb. 8, 2011) at the age of 96.
Born to Elmer and Ruth Curtis in Paris, Missouri on September 29, 1914, Lucille spent most of her life in Newton, Ks. She retired from the J.C. Penny Company in Newton.
Lucille was an active member of the First Christian Church in Newton. She was a sweet lady with a spirit of willingness to go out of her way to help others. At one time she was President of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, the Homebuilders Sunday School Class and Progressive Mother’s Club. During World War II, Lucille was very involved in the American Red Cross Canteen FCC Chapter, an organization giving ministry to our service men. Lucille was also a member of the Harvey County Historical Society.
Lucille married J. Warren Long on June 2, 1935 in Newton, Ks. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1974.
Survivors include two sons, John Long and his wife Becky of Wichita, and James Long and his wife Larissa of Lawrence, Ks.; a sister June Scott and a niece Sara Copp both of Topeka, Ks.
A memorial service celebrating Lucille’s life will be conducted at Kansas Christian Home at 1:30 P.M., Saturday (Feb. 12, 2011), with the Rev. Denny Bell officiating. A private burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday 2pm til 8pm, where the family will be present from 6 til 7.
