Luther Arzo Ray, 95, of Newton, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 2009) at the Newton Medical Center in Newton.
He was born on July 20, 1914 in Hinton, Oklahoma, the son of Albert and Henrietta Ray, Sr. The family moved to Newton in the 1920’s. He graduated from Newton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March, 1941, serving in the Pacific Theater. Luther was discharged in December, 1945.
Luther married Goldena Louise Mitchell, they had been married for over 70 years. He had been the Service Manager for Sharp Mobile Homes in Newton for 60 years. He had been a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #69, F. & A.M. for many years.
Luther enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in his garden. He was a avid supporter of the Democratic Party.
Survivors include his wife Goldena of the home in Newton; one son George Ray, Sr., of Newton; two daughters Mary McClanahan of East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Paula Ray of Newton; one sister Bernice Hutcherson of Wichita; his eight wonderful grandchildren who took great care of him; and eight great grandchildren.
Luther is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers Kohlene Mason Ray, George William Ray, Albert Ray., Jr., and Willis Howard Ray; and one sister Goldie Eldira Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday (Nov. 6, 2009) at the First Church of the Nazarene in Newton. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 1pm til 9pm, where the family will receive friends between 7pm and 9pm.
