NEWTON
Malinda Guhr, 85, passed away on March 25, 2013 at the Newton Presbyterian Manor. Malinda was born on April 18, 1927 near Meno, Oklahoma to Joseph and Eva (Koehn) Eck; the sixth child of eight sisters and two brothers.
On December 27, 1949 to Arnold Guhr at the First Mennonite Church in Newton, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband of 57 years, Arnold Guhr, sisters Frieda Eck, Bertha Jantz, Margaret Miller, Obera Janzen, Lillian Gunnels, Eva Lena Suderman, and a brother, Detrick Eck.
Surviving family includes daughters, Marilyn (Tom) Loof, Chandler, AZ, Janet (Jim) Schrag, Moundridge, KS, Arlene (Gene) Gordon, Valley Center, KS; grandchildren, Alison Loof, Melissa and DJ Kasten, Julianne Loof and Max Gordon; sister Marie Matz; brother Paul Eck; brother-in-law Arlo Janzen; brothers and sisters-in-law of the Guhr family and numerous nieces and nephews.
Malinda was a positive and resilient person. She had the heart of a servant. Foremost was Malinda’s role as a wife, mother and grandmother. She was also employed at Southwestern Bell and Axtell Christian Hospital. Malinda was a longtime member of Koerner Heights Church of Newton. She was an avid cook and baker. She and her husband enjoyed bus trips and visiting family and friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M.to 8:00 P.M. with the family greeting guests from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday at the Restlawn Garden of Memories.
Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M. at Koerner Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Newton, KS, following the burial. Tim Mace will be presiding.
