Marcelina Ruiz Solis, 97, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great -great grandmother, and friend was called to heaven on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton, KS.
She was in Emporia, Kansas on born June 18, 1919 to Jesus and Alijandra Ruiz. She married Joe N. Solis, Sr. on July 18, 1936 in Emporia. They settled in Newton, KS in 1955.
Marcelina was a homemaker for the first twenty years of marriage while her husband was employed by the Santa Fe railroad. She retired from Friendly Acres after many years of loyal service. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Altar society spending many hours volunteering her time and talent.
She is best remembered for her incredible cooking and her unwavering devotion to her family.
Marcelina is survived by daughter Virginia Avila (Julio) of Wichita, Ks.; two sons Joe R. Solis (Gina) of Newton, KS and Gilbert R. Solis (Gloria) of Overland Park, KS.; seven grandchildren Marissa Marfield, Gilbert Solis Jr, Angie Muci, Paul Solis, John Muci, Sheris Solis, and Ali Solis; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Esperanza Solis; grandson Frank Muci; and sister Mary De La Torre.
The Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday (March 3rd, 2017) with the Mass of Christian Burial Funeral at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday (March 4th,2017) both of which will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton.
A memorial has been established with the building fund of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday between 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
