MARGARET CORONA, 91, of Newton, died Tuesday (July 7, 2015) at the Newton Presbyterian Manor.
She was born on February 22, 1924 in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Leonardo J. and Delores Vasquez Estrada. Margaret attended schools in Newton. During WWII, she worked in Wichita at Boeing Aircraft as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She married Gavino “Gabby” Corona on October 12, 1946 in Newton. He died on June 13, 2013.
A lifelong resident of Newton, Margaret had worked as a C.N.A. at the Axtell Christian Hospital until retiring in 1984. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. After her husband’s death, Margaret moved to the Presbyterian Manor.
Survivors include her son Joe Corona and wife Penny Ross Corona of St. Louis, Mo.; son-in-law John Burns of Newton; seven grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren; brothers Frank Estrada of Wichita, Salvador “Jerry” Estrada of Wichita, and Larry Estrada of North Newton; sisters Mary Campa of Wichita, Martina Montano, Cecelia Corona, Jenny Arellano all of Newton, and Josie Palmer of Wichita.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son Antonio; daughter Bentura “Penny” Burns; grandson Ian Christopher Burns; brothers Pete Estrada, Joaquin J. Estrada; sisters Nancy Arellano, Dionisa Estrada, Ramona Estrada, Claudia Jaso.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Friday (July 10, 2015) with the Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:30 A.M., Saturday (July 11, 2015) both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
The casket will be open at the church after 1:00pm on Friday.
