Margaret E. Perkins, 80, of Newton, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 2009) at the Newton Medical Center.

She was born on January 24, 1929 in Newton, Ks., the daughter of Carl F. and Ethel Brinkmeyer Kater. Margaret graduated from Newton High School in 1947. She married Dale Perkins on Sept. 10, 1950 at the Evangelical & Reformed Church in Newton.

Maragret had worked in the Treasurers Office of the Harvey County Courthouse, the
Harvey County A.S.C.S. Office. From 1969 until retiring in 1985, she was a secretary
for U.S.D. 373.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Womens Fellowship at the church, Harvey County Shrine Club, Harvey County Rural Life.

Survivors include her husband Dale of the home; two sons Roger Perkins and his wife Tamara and Scott Perkins and his wife Addie; one daughter Carol Higgs and her husband
John all of Newton; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sister-in-laws
Gloria Kater of Newton and Kay Perkins of North Newton, Ks.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Teresa Dalene Perkins; one brother Don Kater.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday (Oct. 1, 2009) at the First United Church of Christ in Newton with the Rev. Bill Hickerson officiating. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 9am til 9pm, where the family will receive friends 6:30pm til 8pm.

In lieu of flowers the family request contributions be given to Newton Fire & EMS, the Harvey County Sheriff Dept., First United Church of Christ, or Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy.
