Margaret Ann Orpin, 94, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 09, 2025. She peacefully passed away in her home where she lived for the last 10 years at Paramount Community Living and Rehab, Sunflower Nursing Home. We thank the wonderful nurses and caregivers at the facility who took such great care of our dear Aunt.
Margaret was born on December 9, 1930 in Newton, Kansas to Charles Earnest and Alice (Farmer) Orpin. Margaret grew up and spent her entire life in Newton, Kansas. She was a 1948 Newton High School graduate.
While growing up with her 5 older brothers and a younger sister she did chores around the home place. She was secretary to Newton’s school superintendent in her 20’s. She utilized shorthand throughout her life and could read it into her 70’s. Us nieces marveled at this skill we never mastered as well as Aunt Margaret. Her handwriting was meticulous to the day she no longer could write. She was an avid walker and out-walked her brother Jack, and nieces. She played piano and loved to spend time with her extended family. She would often greet friends and family with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. Margaret was strong in her faith and would often recite scriptures.
Margaret spent a large portion of her life at 1300 E. 7th Street. She cared for her dad Charles, for many years and provided relatives with help and homemade soups when they were sick. Margaret also resided at her apartment in North Newton until moving into Assisted Living at Asbury Park (Paramount Community Living and Rehab).
Grateful for having shared her life are her nieces and co-guardians Martha (James) Pajl of Yankton, SD and Alice (Dale) Keazer of Osage City, KS, sister Marian Ruth Akers of Newton, KS, nephew Gary (Jan) Orpin of Hesston, KS (who faithfully visited her at Paramount Nursing Home on Sunday afternoons) along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice (Farmer) Orpin, brothers, Robert (Anna Mae), David, Clarence (Ruth), Jack (Wilma), and Edwin Orpin.
Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton, KS with Pastor Chip Bungard presiding. The family will greet visitors 1 hour prior to the funeral services.
The burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Friends may sign the guest book online at www.broadwaycolonialfh.com.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials directed to Paramount Community Living and Rehab, 200 SW 14th St, Newton, KS 67114, or Good Shepherd Hospice, 3515 W. Central Ave, Wichita, KS 67203.
