Marie A. Swoyer, 54 of Newton, went home to her Lord and Savior, on Monday (Dec. 12, 2011).
She was born on February 24, 1957 in Topeka, Ks., the daughter of Donald D. and Grace E. McEvoy Swoyer. As a child, the family moved to Elm, Washington. Marie attended school in Olympia, Washington until the family moved to Newton in 1974. She graduated from Hesston High School in 1975.
Marie was a member of the Columbus Ave. Church of Christ, volunteered at the Food Bank, enjoyed crocheting and joking with people. She truly valued her independence. The past few months, Marie has been staying at the Kansas Christian Home, her family deeply appreciates the care that has been given.
Marie had been a school crossing guard for several years in North Newton.
Survivors include her parents, Don and Grace Swoyer of Ozawkie, Ks.; brothers Thomas Frank Swoyer and his wife Janet of Willmer, Mn., Mark Allen Swoyer and his wife Denise of Spring Valley, Calif., and Paul Swoyer of Tijeras, N.M.; sisters Kathy Duerksen and her husband Kevin of Newton, and Becky Hewitt and her husband Jerry of Arkansas City, Ks.; and her God-Mother Marilyn Swoyer of Gladstone, Mo.; 10 nephews; two step-nephews; five nieces; four step-nieces; and six great nieces.
Marie rejoins her grandparents, Harold and Esther McEvoy; her beloved Altha and Frank Swoyer and God-Father, Harold Swoyer.
Memorial services will be held at the Columbus Ave. Church of Christ at 2:00 P.M., Thursday (Dec. 15, 2011). Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established with the Columbus Ave. Church of Christ, Kansas Christian Home, and the Special Olympics, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
There not be any viewing or visitation, as cremation has been effected.
