Mary Jane Valerie Vargas, 49, of Newton, died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at the K.U. Medical Center in Kansas City, Ks.
She was born on June 14, 1960 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Frank and Bertha Vargas Marquardt. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs. She lived in McPherson, Kansas for a time period before moving to Newton in 2000.
Mary worked at the North Dillons Store Chinese Deli.
Survivors include her two daughters Veronica Ashley Mayo of Florida and Destiny Dawn Marquardt of Newton; her parents Frank and Bertha Marquardt of Newton; three brothers
Johnny Lujan, Jr. of Newton, Matthew Lujan and his wife Loretta of Lamar, Colo., and Ronald Cruzen, Jr. and his companion Tina Martinez of McPherson, Ks.; one sister Sonia Marquardt and her companion Steve Kempfert of Andover, Ks.; nieces and nephews Jonathan Lujan, Valerie Lujan, Matthew Lujan, Jr., Mariah Lujan, Andre Lujan, Nathan Cruzen, Mercedez Cruzen and Lorenzo Cruzen. Mary is preceded in death by her sister Valerie Lujan.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 5:00 P.M., Thursday (Feb. 18, 2010).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday (Feb. 19, 2010).
Both ceremonies will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday 9am til 4pm.
