Marylee Brainard

Marylee Brainard, 86 passed away peacefully Friday (March 25, 2011) in Wichita, Ks.

Marylee was born August 30, 1924 in McClouth, KS to John Van and Estella (Stout) Garrett. She married Kenneth Brainard June 7, 1947.

After graduating from high school she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a printer clerk in Topeka and was then transferred to Newton Santa Fe offices and worked there until after World War II. She also worked for the Townsend Department Store as a bookkeeper and then for Midland National Bank for over 30 years where she worked until she retired in 1986.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Newton and of the Business and Professional Women.
Marylee also was member of the First United Methodist Church for many years. In retirement she spent countless hours volunteering in the church office.

In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, sewing, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.

Marylee was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth, daughter Margaret Kay and brothers John (Jack) and Joseph Garrett.

She is survived by daughters Martha (John) Crowe of Rose Hill, KS and Peggy (Steve) Frankamp of Wichita, KS, grandchildren Cara and Brayden Crowe and Garrett Frankamp.

Services will be held Tuesday (March 29, 2011), 2:00PM at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Newton. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will be greeting friends Monday,(March 28) from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Newton Area Senior Center, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
