Naomi Irene Remer, 82, died Friday (October 15, 2021) at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Ks.
She was born on October 3, 1939 in rural Miami, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ted and Edna Donahue Helphingstine. Naomi was raised in the Cedar Vale, Kansas area where she graduated from high school. She then attended Southwestern College and went through the nurses training school at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield, Kansas.
She married Floyd Remer on September 24, 1960 in Winfield. They lived in Winfield until the mid 1960’s when they moved to Springfield, Missouri where Floyd attended Central Bible College. Floyd’s pastoralships took them to Bucklin, Cherryvale, Independence, Sedan, Augusta, and Newton.
The Remer’s moved to Newton in 1980. Naomi was an R.N. at the Hertzler Hospital which later became Halstead Hospital where she remained until retiring in 2002.
She was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Newton and the Kansas Nurses Assoc.
Survivors include her husband Floyd of the home; two daughters Lisa Burnett and husband Laynne of Peabody and Crystal Derstine of Park City; brothers Dan Helphingstine of Cedar Vale and Teddie Helphingstine of Sedan; sisters Eleanor Hull of Dexter, Ruth Deweese of Beebe, Ark., Donna Underwood of Winfield; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
The casket will be open at the funeral home on Monday (Oct. 18th) between 1:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday (Oct. 19th) at the New Life Assembly of God Church in Newton.
Interment services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday (Oct. 21st) at the Kansas Veteran Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas.
A memorial has been established with New Life Assembly of God Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
