Naomi Ruth Unruh passed away Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by her family.
Naomi was born March 14, 1944 in Cordell, Oklahoma, to Noah Dean and Mary Elizabeth (Frantz) Unruh.
Naomi loved music and was in the Choir and the Raileres in Newton High School. She also sang in many church choirs and sang solos for many years. Upon graduation in 1962 from Newton High School, she attended Central College graduating in 1966 at the top of her class and was class valedictorian.
Almost all of her entire working career was spent as Secretary/Treasurer for her Father Noah’s real estate firm until her father passed away in 1990. She continued to work in the real estate investment business until her death.
Naomi was a member of the Golden Plains Free Methodist Church in Newton.
One of her best friends was a little dog affectionately called “Buster Dog.” She spent many happy hours with him. Another friend was Jim Todd with whom she spent many good times and had special memories. She was especially close to an aunt, Josephine Eslinger, with whom she spent good times and good food with for many years. She was also known for her affection for her family. Naomi was the one who remembered those special holidays, birthdays and anniversaries; not only for her immediate family but for extended family such as aunts and cousins.
Naomi lived at home and cared for her parents in declining years.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include sister, Margaret (Don) Davis of Overland Park, Kansas; niece, Linda (Ray) Heck of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; great niece, Katie (Eric) Faler; great nephew, James (Kaitee) Sutler; great nieces, Ayla, Hazel and Alora; and great nephew, Vance all of the Kansas City area. Naomi also leaves a host of cousins. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 2, from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. The family will be present from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Services will be at Golden Plains Free Methodist Church, 224 NW 60th St., Newton, Kansas at 1:00pm on Friday, October 3, 2014. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
Donations may be made to Golden Plains Free Methodist Church or Central College of McPherson, Kansas, memorials may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks.
