Okuni “Nikki” Evans, 88, passed away on Wednesday (November 28, 2018) at the Asbury Park Greenhouse in Newton with her daughter at her side.

She was born on January 10, 1930 in Saitama Ken, Japan to Tatsugoro and Take Shindo Takeda. She married Wilfred Evans on July 11, 1958. They had one child, a daughter Edith.

Nikki came to the United States with her husband who was in the U.S. Army and they were stationed at various bases throughout the U.S. Wilfred retired in 1968 at Ft. Riley, Kansas. They made their home in Herrington, Kansas for several years until moving to Huachuca City, Arizona.

Along with her volunteer work with RSVP, she was also very active at Asbury Park, helping where she could. She was a familiar face to staff when something needed to be done.

Nikki also enjoyed traveling. She took many day trips with the Harvey County Interurban and also did extended trips with the Newton and Hesston Senior Center. Besides her travels, Nikki enjoyed making jewelry for the staff at Asbury, as well as family and friends. She also enjoyed doing word search puzzles and putting together jigsaw puzzles, during football season, watching her beloved Dallas Cowboys.

Nikki is survived by her daughter Edith (Duane) Clark of Newton; granddaughter Elizabeth Herpich of Newton; grandson Christopher (Ruth) Clark of Goddard; and three great grandchildren Anthony Herpich, Addison Clark, and Carolyne Clark.
