Olivian Raya, 73, died Tuesday (October 8, 2013) at the Presbyterian Manor.
She was born July 24, 1940 in Newton, the son of Locadio and Maria Reyes Monares. “Ollie” graduated from Newton High School in 1958. Shortly after graduating she moved to Hutchinson where she graduated from the Salt City Business College.
In 1976, “Ollie” went to work as an Administrative Secretary at the Hutchinson Law Enforcement Center, retiring in 2003. While in Hutchinson, she was active at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church.
She moved to the Kansas Christian Home in Newton in 2006 and was active at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors include her sons Albert Adrian Raya of Great Bend, Everett Todd Raya of Mesa, Az., David Martin Raya of Gardner, Ks., and Luke Marcus Raya of Hutchinson, Ks.; brothers Emilio Monarez, Willie Monares of Newton, Jim Monarez of Wichita, Louis Monarez of Thornton, Colo; sisters Catherine Vela of Thornton, Colo., Sally Juarez of Denver, Colo., Mona Koehn of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren Tyler Kesterson, Alexia Raya, Alayna Raya, Alexzander Raya, Noah Raigoza, Erika Raya, Justin Nickerson, Josh Nickerson, Steve Nickerson, Ashlynn Raya; great grandchildren Nathan, Caitlyn, Maddie and Kendall Nickerson.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Carlos Monarez, Angel Monares, and Faustino Monarez.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said at 9:30 A.M., Monday (Oct. 14, 2013), the Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 A.M., both at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday 1pm til 7pm, where the family will receive friends between 5 and 7.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and the Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Association, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
