Phyllis Zellers

Phyllis L. Zellers, 92, went to her home in Heaven, Friday (June 27, 2014) from her home in Newton.

She was born on June 16, 1922 in Peabody, Ks., to Irvin and Irene Draper. Phyllis graduated from high school in Florence, Ks.

She married Orville A. Zellers on July 6, 1942 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Peabody. Orville was serving in the military at the time to which took them to Ft. Wayne, Indiana. After his being discharged in 1945, they moved to Newton. Phyllis and Orville were married for 52 years and were best friends forever.

Phyllis was a bookkeeper for the First Kansas Life Insurance Company in Newton for 16 years. She was a longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her family and playing cards.

Phyllis is survived by her family who loved her so much, son Roger Zellers and daughter-in-law Dorothy of Wichita; daughter Linda Kepley and son-in-law Jim of Ulysses, Ks.; sister Lee Cannon of Newton; brother David Draper of Grandview, Mo.; six grandchildren, Janel Wait, Jeremy Zellers, Justin Zellers, Vicki Leadbetter, Jamie Clodfelter, and Matthew Kepley; she is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.

Phyllis shared her life, concern and constant love for all of her family. We will truly miss her, but so joyful that she is now in her beautiful eternal home.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Orville on April 28, 1994; and granddaughter Karen Kepley.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Wednesday (July 2, 2014) at the Zion Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 1pm til 8pm, where the family will receive friends between 6 and 8.

A memorial has been established with the Zion Lutheran Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
