Newton
Ramiro “Ron” Angel Montano, 89, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Kansas Christian Home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 1, 1927, in Chase County, the son of Juana (Camarena) and Juan Montano.
Ron was a member of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Newton, Kansas.
In November 21, 1945, Ron entered the United State Naval Service in San Diego, California. While in service he had ports of call in Guam, Hawaii, China and Japan. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Ron was honorably discharged on October 1, 1947 in San Pedro, California.
Ron was a member of the VFW Chapter and the American Legion Club, both of Newton.
On August 26, 1950, he married Margaret Katherine Sauceda. They have celebrated 66 years of marriage. To this marriage five children were born, Alice, Ron Jr., Richard, Alfred and Gilbert.
Ron attended business college in Hutchinson. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service where he was employed as a Railway Mail Clerk and Postal Service Expeditor.
His greatest pride was his life as loving husband, father and grandfather. His love will be greatly missed by all those that knew him.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Ron Montano Jr.; grandson, David Montano; siblings Amelia, Imelda Montano and Henry Lepe.
Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret of the home; daughter Alice(Fred) Henry, Derby; three sons, Richard (Marlene) Montano, Topeka, Alfred (Diana) Montano, North Newton and Gilbert Montano Sr., Newton; two brothers, Armando Montano, Newton and Roger Lepe, Wichita; two sisters, Irma Martinez and Angelica Mancha, both of Texas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 from 1:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 6:00 P.M. led by Father Pat Malone.
The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newton.
