Rex E. Heald, 87, died Monday (September 9, 2013) at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice center of Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
He was born on September 9, 1926 on the family farm in Ottawa County, Kansas, the son of Harry and Glenna Windhorst Heald. Rex graduated from high school in Minneapolis, Kansas and later attended Kansas State University.
Rex served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for a short while in Wichita at Boeing Aircraft before moving to a farm near Bentley, Ks. where he lived til the early 80’s when he moved with his parents to Wells, Ks. Rex moved to Hesston in 1994.
Rex was a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church, delivered Meals on Wheels, was active at the Hesston Area Sr. Center and Prairie Land Foods. He was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Rex is survived by his sister Carolyn Holmes and her husband Leo of Hesston.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday (September 14, 2013) at the Hesston United Methodist Church.
A memorial has been established with the Hesston United Methodist Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening between 7 and 830.
