RICHARD D. SMITH, 59, died Wednesday (July 18, 2012) at his home in Newton.
He was born on October 9, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the son of James Lee and Lucille Weeks Smith. He attended high school in Atlanta, Louisiana, moving to Anchorage, Alaska where he graduated from high school. Shortly after which, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Richard was a fork lift driver for York Heating and Air Conditioning which would later become Johnson Control in Wichita for 12 years. Richard lived in Wichita for several years before moving to Newton 26 years ago.
Richard is survived by his wife of 30 years, Virginia Kay Allmond of the home; son Colby Allmond of Newton; daughters Angela Menjivar of Peabody and Stephanie Smith of Walton; brother James Larry Smith of Seminole, Fla., sister Martha Jane Crist of West Monroe, La.; two granddaughters Genaka and Gesaka Menjivar of Peabody; and a great granddaughter Sophia Spect of Newton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald Lee Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday (July 23, 2012) at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
