Robert I. Williams, 86, of Newton, died Monday (October 14, 2013) at the Newton Medical Center.
He was born on May 24, 1927 in Argonia, Ks., the son of Ward and Nettie King Williams. Robert was raised in the Argonia area, after the death of his father the family moved to Newton where he graduated from Newton High School in 1945.
Robert married LaVeta D. Scheffler on January 26, 1957 in Nortonville, Ks. They farmed east of Newton until moving into town on August 13, 1992.
Survivors include his wife LaVeta; sons Neal Williams and wife Sheila, and Steve Williams all of Newton; sister Myrtle Sparling of Wichita; grandchildren Tonya Cowan and husband Tom, Ryan Williams and wife Jay, Nathan Williams and wife Jess; great grandchildren Colbey and Kyleigh Williams and Taysley Cowan.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Eldon, Earl,Loren and Wayne; and sisters Edythe Gum and Claidine Coleman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday (October 17, 2013) at the Salem United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday 1pm til 9pm, where the family will receive friends between 6:30 and 9.
A memorial has been established with the Walton Rural Life School, Newton E.M.S., and the Salem United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
