Robert Whomans, age 93, of Newton, Kansas passed away August 2, 2023 at Paramount Living and Rehab. He was born October 4, 1929 in Wellington, Kansas the son of John W. and Florence (Meyers) Whomans.
After high school he entered the Army and proudly served his country for 2 years. Robert married Mary Ann Hawkins and they were married for 69 years. Robert worked for 50 years at the same job. He was the asphalt Forman for Rhoades construction which eventually became APAC. During that time Robert was nominated and won a National award for laying asphalt without any imperfections.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Hazel Whomans; step-father Detmer Allison, brother, Paul Whomans; sisters, Maxine O”Neal and Mary Yahnke
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter Diane Schrag (James); son, David Whomans (Rhonda); brothers, Lee Allison (Judy), Howard Allison (Becky), Arthur Allison (Sandi); sisters, Rose Allison (Nick), Joyce Lancaster (Nelson), Marjorie Keazer (Curtis); grandchildren, Tiffany Paulson, Michael Irving (Amanda), Adrien Irving, Bethany Irving, Justin Robert Schrag (Kelli), Meghan Szawielenko (Aaron), Robbie Kurtz (Crystal), 18 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Robert will be loved and missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will be greeting family and friends at a Visitation on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS. 67114.
