Rose Weesner

ROSE WEESNER, 92, of Newton, died Wednesday (April 13, 2011) at Asbury Park in Newton.

She was born on January 7, 1919 in Lehigh, Kansas, the daughter of John E. and Mary Friesen Hiebert. Rose was united in marriage to Oscar Weesner in July 1939 in Cottonwood Falls, Ks. He died on October 6, 1997.

Rose had done housekeeping work for 19 years in the area and was also a nurses aide for eight years at the Bethel Hospital. She was a former member of the Newton Bible Church, a member of the Whitewater American Legion Post #65 Ladies Auxillary for 26 years. Rose loved working with arts and crafts, watching and feeding the birds, making Christmas ornaments for her family, and helping people.

Survivors include her son Robert E. Weesner and his companion LaVada Fowler of Newton; one daughter Barbara Walker and husband Lon of Newton; sister Ella Ramsay of Newton; sister-in-laws Vera Hiebert of Idaho and Laura Hiebert of Newton; grandchildren Mike Schirer and wife Dorcas of Farmington, N.M., Tony Schirer and wife Julie of Boise, Idaho, Teresa Jones and husband Kevin of Shawnee Mission, Ks., Angie Feleay and husband Kevin of Topeka; and 10 great grandchildren.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers Frank and Albert Hiebert.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday (April 16, 2011) at the Whitewater City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Friday 9am til 8pm, where the family will receive friends Friday evening between 6 and 8.

A memorial has been established with Asbury Park and Good Shepherd Hospice, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
