Roy Braught

Roy Ulysess Braught, 67, of Newton, died Saturday (March 16, 2019) at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Ks.

He was born on May 28, 1951 in El Dorado, Ks., the son of Roy William and Elizabeth Maxine Casto Braught. Roy went to Putnam City High School in Oklahoma. During the Viet Nam War he served in the U.S. Army.

Roy married LouAnn Sparks on April 1, 1977 in Miami, Oklahoma. Prior to moving to Newton just over 20 years ago, Roy and LouAnn had lived in Dexter, Kansas and Hesston, Kansas.

He had recently retired from Prestress Concrete in Newton where he had been a bridge former. Roy liked working there and his co-workers were like to family to him.

Roy loved his family, spending time with them and family outings. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, throwing the football and tossing the baseball. Roy liked attending car shows and as an O.U. Football fan, watching college football games as well as old cartoons.

Always happy to lend a hand, Roy would help anyone who asked. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always quick with a joke and a smile.

Survivors include his wife LouAnn of the home in Newton; daughter Melony Harmon and husband Kenneth of Winfield, Ks.; brother Ralph Palmer, Jr. of Cassoday, Ks.; three sisters Alinda Foiles, Debra Buller and Melody Schmitz all of Newton; four grandchildren Nikia, Jade, Logan, and Kyle Harmon; and two great grandchildren William Harmon and Easton Carter.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Billy Braught and Teddy Stoer.

Graveside services and interment will be at 2:30 P.M., Thursday (March 21, 2019) at the Hesston City Cemetery in Hesston, Ks.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday between 1:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M., where the family will receive friends between 6:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
