Ruby I. Kurr

October 31, 1935 — August 18, 2018

Ruby Irene Kurr, 82, of Newton, passed away peacefully at Asbury Park on the 18th of August, 2018.

 Ruby was born on October 31, 1935 in Newton, KS the daughter of Paul and Blanche Regier.  Ruby attended Berean Academy and graduated from Newton High in 1953 and married Les Kurr on April 21, 1956 in Elbing, KS.  Ruby loved farming with her husband in rural Newton and raising her six children.  She was a member of Newton Bible Church.

Ruby had a passion for the Lord.  This was demonstrated by boundless energy and love for all of those she came in contact with.  She loved children of all ages, taught children church and Sunday school, mentored young adults, connected and cared for those in poor health, and provided encouragement through both words and actions.   Ruby spread happiness with her smile, kindness, baked goods, and loving words. 

Survivors include her six children Gary Kurr and wife Cindy of Newton, Joni Isaac and husband Mark of Ft. Worth, TX, Lori Knowles and husband Joe of Maryland, David Kurr and wife Stacy of Wichita, Kathy Rhodes and husband Jeffrey of Madison, MS, and James Kurr of Overland Park, KS; her sister Judy Janzen of Newton, KS; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.  Ruby is preceded in death by her parents and husband Les.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am (Aug. 22, 2018) at the Newton Bible Church. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery. 

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1pm to 8pm, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8. 

A memorial has been established with the Newton Bible Church (please indicate “Nursery Renovations”), contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
