Ruth M. Schope

Ruth M. Schope, 92, passed away February, 8, 2009 at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas. She was born on October 14, 1916 in Otis, Kansas , the daughter of Elizabeth (Steitz) and Jacob Roenfeldt.
She went to a country school and graduated from the LaCrosse High School. Ruth also had taught school at a one room school house near Rush Center, Kansas.
On June 5, 1935 she married Walter Schope at the Hope Lutheran Church. They were married 68 years. Walter died May 28th, 2002. Ruth had moved to Newton in May of 2000 with her husband Walter.
Survivors include her children, Wayne Schope and wife Janice, Warsaw, Indiana and Gloria Ochs and husband Vincent, Newton, Kansas; 5 grandchildren, Cheryl Ochs Wheeler, Lesa Redger, Michelle Tanner, Wayne Schope II and Dr. Betty Jo Schope and 13 great grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister Mable Holopirek, and grandson, Brent Ochs.
There will be no visitation held in Newton. The visitation will be held on Thursday, February, 12th at 10:00 A.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in rural Albert, Kansas.
Funeral Services will follow the visitation on Thursday, February, 12, 11:30 A.M. at the Peace Lutheran Church in rural Albert, Kansas.
Burial will follow in the Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, Box 44, Albert, Kansas or in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral , 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Kansas, 67114
