Sebastian Garcia, 96, died Friday (July 17, 2015) at the Wheat State Manor in Whitewater, Ks.
He was born on January 7, 1919 in Newton, Ks., the son of Joseph and Felipa Hernandez Garcia.
He attended schools in Newton and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Sebastian served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in battles and campaigns in Italy, Germany and Southern France. His military honors include, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, four Bronze Battle Stars, and three Overseas Service Bars. He was wounded in battle and honorably discharged in October, 1945.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Sebastian is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Martin Pementel, Nieves Pementel, and Geronimo Rincon; and sisters Carmen Pementel, Ylaria R. Gonzalez, Emilia Mosqueda, and Pabla Tafolla.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday (July 22, 2015) and Funeral services will be held at 9:00 A.M., Thursday (July 23, 2015) both at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Newton.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9:00 AM on Wednesday.
