Stephen Kent Day

November 13, 1949 — December 3, 2024

Newton, Kansas

Stephen Kent Day, born November 13th, 1949, passed away early Tuesday morning, Dec. 3rd, at the NMC Health and Medical Center in Newton, Kansas, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His family was with him the week before he passed away.

Steve was born in Concordia, Kansas, to Floyd and Faith Day. Steve graduated high school in 1967 and joined the Air Force in 1969. He became a maintenance coordinator on the C-5A Galaxy aircraft. Steve was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1976. He went on to work in management and sales for various companies in Selby, SD, Hulett, WY, Sundance, WY, and Gillette, WY with a short stint in Spokane, WA in the early 2000s. Steve loved traveling to see his children and talked about them often. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their baseball tournaments. He was well-versed in numerous social activities, primarily known for his tenacity at a foosball table, his talent on the golf course, and his love for baseball and basketball (he filled out many NCAA tournament brackets and was an avid KU basketball fan). Steve retired in the spring of 2021 and moved to Newton, KS, to live on the golf course near his sisters Pat and Nancy. His retirement days were spent happily on the Sand Creek Station golf course, averaging over 100 golf days per year, and visiting his cousins, kids, grandkids, and brother Jeff in Chicago.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Faith Day. He is survived by his 3 children, Brandon (Christina) of Modesto, CA, Spencer (Karyn) of Riverton, WY, and Sydne (Tim) of Denver, CO; and by his 11 grandchildren: Caitlyn, Andrew, Greyson, Addalyn, Isaac, Monroe, Anthony, Sutton, Felicity, Kateri, and a new grandchild due in July; and by his siblings Pat Day-Hanson, Nancy (Bob) Day-Bentley, and Jeff (Judi) Day. His family, friends, and golf buddies will greatly miss Steve. Celebration of life arrangements will be held in Concordia, KS, in the Spring.
