Steven Garcia, 43, of Newton, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
He was born on April 14, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joe D. and Mary Garcia. The family moved to Newton when he was a year old. Steven graduated from Newton High School in 1984. He married Michelle Newsted on July 1, 1989 in Newton.
Through the years he had worked at Excell and Full Vision. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Steven and Michelle were Foster Parents for several youth, he enjoyed music, going to garage sales, playing cards and also enjoyed socializing with friends and family.
Steven is survived by his wife Michelle of the home; one son Steven Marcus Garcia of the home; three daughters Alicia Garcia, Tonya Garcia and Nina Garcia; his mother Mary Garcia; one brother Julian A. Garcia; one sister Margarita Shepler; a foster-son Tony Bland; two grandchildren Kian Dussault and Cadence Bland; a niece Micayla Shepler all of Newton; a nephew Aaron Garcia of California.
He is preceded in death by his father who was originally from Florence, Ks.; grandparents Nicolas and Guadalupe Garcia, and Abraham and Guadalupe Garcia.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M., Wednesday (Oct. 21, 2009) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday (Oct. 22, 2009) at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton.
Cremation will follow the services with private family inurnment at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newton.
Viewing will held at the church on Wednesday after 9am.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to the American Diabetes Assoc. or the Huntington’s Disease Assoc., contributions may be left at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
