Thomas Clayton Moulds, 89, of Halstead, died Friday (Aug. 21, 2009) at the Halstead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Halstead, Ks.

Tom was born on November 26, 1919 in Sedgwick , Kansas , the son of Robert E. and Clare M. Ropp Moulds. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1939. He married Ann Marese Phillips on April 25, 1942 in Newton , Ks.

Tom worked as a pressman at the Newton Kansan and later in the composing room at the Wichita Eagle. Tom and Ann moved to California in 1959, where he attended Mortuary School in Los Angeles . He had been a funeral director and embalmer for many years in California and was the owner of Ferrara & Moulds Colonial Mortuary in Orange , Calif. , until retiring in June, 1980. They returned to Kansas in the Summer of 1992.

Tom had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Halstead. Down through the years Tom had also been a member of the Newton Masonic Lodge #142 A.F. & A.M., the Arkansas Valley Chapter #27 of the Royal Arch Masons, Hutchinson Council #13, the Newton Commandery #9 of the York Rite , the Isis Shrine in Salina, the Provost Guard Unit of Isis, the Harvey County Shrine Club, Ancient Toltec Rite in Topeka and the Newton Toltec Club in Newton.

Survivors include his wife Ann M. Moulds of Halstead; one brother Dean Moulds of Wichita , Ks.; two sisters Kathryn Lamia of Kanopolis, Ks. and Florence Bumm of Sedgwick, Ks.; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald Moulds, Norman “Buck” Moulds; and sisters Pauline Prine, Evelyn Becker, Eleanor Bennett, and and Geraldine Vogel.

Funeral services will be held at the Broadway Colonial Funeral Home in Newton on Wednesday (Aug. 26, 2009) at 10:00 AM, with Hospice Chaplain Peter Hartman officiating.. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Newton , Ks., with Masonic Committal Services.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 1pm til 9pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 7:00 til 8:30pm.
