Varena K. Huebert, 77, of Sedgwick, died Wednesday (June 5, 2013) at the Newton Medical Center in Newton, Ks.
She was born on May 31, 1936 in Alexander, Ks., the daughter of Newton O. and Lillian Tripp Ream. The family moved to Newton when Varena was an infant. As a child she enjoyed spending a lot of time with her grandparents. She graduated from Newton High School.
Varena married John O. Huebert on May 31, 1954 at the First Christian Church in Newton. They had just celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Varena was a longtime member of the Sedgwick Christian Church where she was very active, especially with the children’s programs. She had been a part of the Vacation Bible School program for 70 years. For several years, Varena had been a Pre-School Teacher for the Little Hands Pre-School.
Survivors include her husband John; two sons Jeff and his wife Susan and Rodney and his wife Alice; one daughter Janell Ferguson all of Rural Sedgwick. Her grandchildren Melissa Tilelli, Michelle Miller, Cody Ferguson, Christian, Alyssa, Nickolas, Jayden, Brandon and Tina Means, Jeremy Huebert, Amy Wells, Matthew Huebert, Jason Huebert; and her great grandchildren Madison Miller, Joseph, Nicholas and Brooklyn Tilelli, Jacob, Caleb, Abigail, Hannah, and Gabriel Means, Payton, Kami, and Ella Wells.
Varena is preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers Gary and Ronald Ream.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday (June 11, 2013) at the Sedgwick Christian Church. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday 9am til 4pm. The family will receive friends at the church in Sedgwick, Monday evening between 6 and 9pm.
A memorial has been established with the Sedgwick Christian Church, contributions may be sent to Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, Ks. 67114.
