Verla May Eastman, 92, of Newton, died Monday (Sept. 13, 2010) at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born on March 25, 1918 in El Dorado, Ks, the daughter of Robert Thomas and Flossie Dale O’Dell Goodson. Verla graduated from El Dorado High School and the Hutchinson Business College. During World War II, Verla was employed in a war plant in Auburn, Indiana.
In May, 1948, she married the Rev. H.T. Eastman in McPherson, Ks. Their ministry in Evangelism of 20 years was served in the states, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico and The Virgin Islands. They settled in Colorado Springs. Verla worked at the Nazarene Bible College for nine years. Rev. Eastman died in 1985, after retirement Verla moved to Newton.
She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita.
Survivors include three step-children Maurine Epple, Tim Eastman and Dan Eastman all of Pueblo, Colo.; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister Deloris Johanson and husband Melvin of Maize, Ks.; one brother Albert Goodson and wife Carol of McPherson, Ks.; several nieces and nephews.
Verla is preceded in death by her parents; husband; one step-daughter Sylvia; brothers Jim, Marvin, Bob, Joe, Morris and George.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday (Sept. 16, 2010) at the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 3:30 P.M., Thursday at the McPherson City Cemetery.
