Victoria Mae (Hein) Akers, 70, died Monday (Dec. 19, 2016) in Wichita.
She was the daughter of Frances and Victor Hein, born on January 13, 1946in Newton, Ks.
In 1968, she married Kenneth Akers and in 1971 they had a daughter, Hillary. Though they later divorced, they remained life long friends.
Victoria retired from working for the State of Kansas Vocational Rehabilitation Department, a career that allowed her to advocate for others, which she enjoyed and was passionate about. She was an avid reader and was active in several book clubs; she loved to travel, play Scrabble, watch Jeopardy and spend time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Hein and Frances Roth; and grandson, Clayton Matzen.
She is survived by daughter, Hillary Matzen and fiancé Waylon Pearson; grandson, Nathan Matzen; brothers, Wilbur Hein and Kenneth Hein; and sisters, Sandy Halling and Juanita Miller.
Memorial Service will be held at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 27, 2016), followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
Memorial donations may be made to American Lung Foundation or Victory in the Valley in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway St., Newton, KS 67114.
