Virginia Ann Scheffler, 80, died on July 19, 2010 at the Newton Medical Center.
She was born on August 11, 1929 in Newton, to Leo James and Mabel Vance Siehndel Walton.
Virginia attended Sugar Grove elementary school through the 8th grade and graduated from Newton High School in 1947. After graduation she attended Emporia Teachers College, earning her teaching degree.
Virginia taught for four years at Norris Elementary School, before she married Morris Scheffler on May 18th, 1952 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newton, Kansas.
Virginia and Morris hosted the Newton and surrounding area kindergarten and pre-schooler programs every fall for 26 years, giving tours of the farm and livestock operation.
In 1986, she became a registered medical assistant and worked for the Wichita Clinic in Wichita, Kansas, until 2001 when she entered retirement.
Survivors include 2 sons; Mark and wife Janet Scheffler, Newton, Morrie and wife Shari, Valley Center; 2 daughters, Diana and husband Bruce Rempel, Newton, and Debbie and husband David Hoofer, Bel Aire; grandchildren, Melissa Scheffler, Michelle Lown, Marcie, Margo, Marie, Martha, Jacob and Jessica Hoofer, Scott Rempel, Samuel and Adam Scheffler; great-grandchildren, Hunter Lown
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Morris Scheffler.
Visitation will be from 1:00 – 9:00 P.M with the .Recitation of the Holy Rosary being held on Wednesday, July 21, 7:00 P.M., at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, Newton, Kansas. The Reverend James Mainzer will be presiding.
Mass of Christian Burial, will be on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Newton, Kansas.
Burial will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newton, Kansas.
