William R. Wilson, age 85, of Newton Kansas, passed away on April 17, 2024 surrounded by his family.
William, also know as Bill, was born on November 8, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to parents Wilber and Viola Wilson. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Ottawa University, and a Master’s Degree from Drake University. After graduating, he was a high school teacher in both Quinter, Kansas, and Belle Plaine, Kansas, where he coached football, track, and basketball. William later accepted a position with Shelter Insurance as a District Manager where he worked until he retired.
William is survived by his wife Donna; his sons, Jim (Jodi), John (Billi), and Michael (Jessica); his grandchildren Hannah, Keeli, Gavin, Ethan, Bradyn, Janessa, Caleb and Evie, and his great-grandchildren Emma, Ryker, and Rowyn, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Wilber and Viola Wilson, brother Wendel “Windy” Wilson, and sister Patricia “Pattie” Smith.
William was a great husband and loving family man who loved to play golf every chance he could, sports, and spending time with his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and didn’t hesitate to tell a joke to make others laugh.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 24, 2024, 2:00 pm at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home, 120 E. Broadway, Newton, KS. 67114.
Memorials are suggested to Harry Hynes Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
